Abstract

One of the parts of the Polish national security system is the issue related to energy security. It is usually defined as a guarantee of energy supply related to the system's resilience to exceptional and unpredictable events that may threaten the physical integrity of the energy flow or lead to an unstoppable increase in its price, regardless of economic grounds. This translates into such a state of the economy that ensures that the current and future demand of consumers for fuels and energy is covered in a technically, economically and socially justified manner.

The security of energy supply depends on many factors and the expected increase in demand means that it should be supplied from many sources. Power supply to the energy system should be flexible and diversified. The negative impact on the environment and living conditions of the energy sector society must be small and systematically minimized. It is necessary to maintain the value of its impact.

The recently revealed geopolitical threats show that the attention in this sector should shift from primary energy carriers (oil, gas, coal) to other renewable energy carriers.

According to the authors of the study, one of such energy sources is biomass. They put forward a justified thesis that the production, production and use of biomass may become an important element in improving the energy policy in Poland.
