Abstract

Passenger cars belong to transport means, which are widely used for various purposes. A vehicle size and its space capacity depends on a category. There are such situations, when a capacity of a passenger vehicle is not sufficient. On one hand, this insufficient capacity relates with a space for luggage. It is possible to mount a rooftop cargo carrier or a roof basket on a roof. If a vehicle is equipped with a towbar, a towbar cargo carrier can be used for improving a space capacity of a car. These accessories have limited space and the maximal load is determined by the maximal payload of a vehicle. On the other hand, if a man wants to transport the load with higher mass or greater dimensions and a vehicle is equipped by a towbar, a trailer represents an elegant solution for these demanding requirements. A standard flat trailer allows to transport of good of various character, such as goods on pallets, bulk material etc. However, towing of a trailer changes a distribution of the loads together with changes of loads of individual axes of a vehicle-trailer axles. The distribution of the loads is one of the key factors, which effect the driving properties of a vehicle-trailer combination in term of driving stability. This relates mainly with the distribution of the load on a trailer. This research brings a study, how the distribution of the load on a trailer influences the driving stability of a vehicle-trailer stability. The research activities come from simulation computations performed in a commercial multibody software. The results have shown, that the optimal position of the centre of gravity of the load is near to the trailer axle and in such a manner, that the towbar of a vehicle is loaded by the maximal permissible vertical load.
