Design improvement of blown film die in terms of flow uniformity by using numerical methods
Last modified: 16. 05. 2025
Abstract
A high level of flow uniformity of the extruded polymeric material is a key aspect in designing blown film dies. It affects the uniformity of the resulting film which, in turn, translates into its quality. This paper presents the process of improving a side-fed film blowing die into a bottom-fed die using numerical methods. Only the mandrel of the die was upgraded thereby leaving the other components of the die unchanged. Film samples extruded with both the side-fed mandrel and the bottom-fed spiral mandrel were subjected to strength and thermal analysis. The coefficient of variation of the obtained results was examined to determine the degree of homogeneity of the extruded polymeric material.
