Abstract

The paper is focused on testing and certification of friction brake components of rail vehicles. The test is performed on a certified test bench, included in the International Union of Railways (UIC), which also issues relevant regulations for certification and operation, on basis of continuous improvement of the measuring line to achieve relevant measurement results meeting strict UIC standards.

Main requirements of the program extension are applications of multilevel braking and variable simulated weight. Multi-level braking consists in possibility of any number of braking force automatic increments per friction components based on the achieved value of simulated speed during the braking process. The variable simulated mass is a specific requirement, and during the activation of this braking program, the simulated braked mass changes based on the braking speed reached. Based on the analysis of properties of individual measuring and control components of the brake test bench, we propose an adjustment of the structure of the measuring and control program. We will also take into account its mechanical properties, for example natural frequencies and instantaneous inertia. In the next step, we will perform a series of measurements. We evaluate the measured data and propose a corrective improvement of the program so that response of the mechanical system does not get out of the tolerance range.               The aim of the paper is a functional and fine-tuned extension of the measuring program with new functions to meet requirements of the UIC standard and some other specific requirements of brake lining manufacturers.
