Abstract. In many publications of recent years concerning optimization of, among other things strength of alloys and their resistance to wear, one can notice a tendency to look for new solutions in the form of new alloying additives or improvement of alloy properties through the introduction of widely available alloying elements. This paper presents the results of an examination of the effect of changes in the chemical composition of ductile cast iron on its mechanical and tribological properties. Samples from five melts carried out in various ways in terms of the input materials used were examined under industrial conditions based on the analysis of the cooling curve, during the automated cast iron melting technology enabling the elimination of degraded Chunky graphite.  The influence of alloying elements: nickel, chromium, copper, silicon on such alloy properties as: tensile strength, hardness, and abrasive wear was determined. Spectroscopic examination of the microstructure was performed.
