Abstract

For every owner and user of a firearm, material and functional values are very important factors. In all cases, the technical condition is also essential, especially the accuracy of the weapon. Fundamental for such assessment is most often the practical execution of a series of shots at the target and then check the spread of the projectiles. General values should not be omitted - concerning the operating time and the total number of ammunition fired. The methods of such estimation are not satisfactory for everyone.

At the request of third parties, the authors proposed a method that allowed to determinate the qualities of short firearms. For this method, essential were those parts, whose wear and tear is particularly important for effective use of weapon. On the example of the HK SFP9L pistol, steps were taken to examine the surface of the barrel - the element essential for high accuracy of the weapon. The issue of selection of measuring devices was solved and an attempt was made to investigate the selected phenomenon of surface corrosion. The obtained conclusions were confirmed by the results of practical field trial.
